Texans QB Joe Webb suffers significant foot injury in loss to Rams

Houston Texans backup quarterback Joe Webb suffered a significant foot injury in Thursday night’s preseason finale loss to the Los Angeles Rams, according to coach Bill O’Brien.

“I’m not sure of the extent of it,” said O’Brien in Friday’s press conference. “Joe Webb is a great teammate and a guy in our locker room that’s been an awesome addition to the locker room since the day he walked in the door.”

Webb, a third-string quarterback/special teams ace/emergency wide receiver, is poised to start 2019 on the injured reserve.

The injury puts the Texans down to two quarterbacks behind Deshaun Watson. A.J. McCarron hasn’t played any preseason football but was shown on Thursday throwing without a cast — after injuring his thumb in joint training camp in Green Bay.

Jordan Ta’amu was a late undrafted free-agent addition who threw 12 passes in the preseason. He’s not expected to make the 53-man roster; as he came aboard to fill the roster after McCarron’s injury.

With Webb out, the Texans “are talking about” adding another quarterback to the roster after the rest of the NFL finishes out their cuts.
