Texans QB Deshaun Watson had eyes shut when he threw game-winning TD to TE Darren Fells

On Sunday, Deshaun Watson cemented himself into Sportscenter’s top-10 for the rest of 2019. The Houston Texans third-year quarterback made a game-winning touchdown pass that shouldn’t — and won’t — be described with words alone.

The highlight itself can do the talking.

Watson, however, can provide analysis and a breakdown like no one else.

“I just kind of just trying to make a play and try to spin him off and when I spinned him, his leg kind of came up and I’m not sure where it hit,” said Watson on Sunday. “It just hit my helmet, that’s all I remember.”

Watson was kicked in his left eye on the play. While scrambling, and powering through a tackle, the dynamic quarterback covered his eye. However, that’s not all he did. He was through the touchdown to Darren Fells blind. You read that right, blind.

“And this eye (left) went shut and just kind of was, could kind of seeing Fells kind of going to my right, I had to re-adjust my helmet and then this eye (right) was actually going closed too, so I kind of threw it blind,” said Watson.”

Blind. He threw it blind. How?

“I kind of assumed where he was going and kind of adjusted and let my arm guide it,” said Watson. “And then I didn’t even see the play until after the game. I just kind of just laid there and heard the crowd go crazy and knew we scored.”

The fact that Watson evaded three sack attempts, checked his eye (which was swollen shut), then simply predicted where his target would be and nailed it without vision is miraculous on its own. The fact that it was the game-winning score makes it all that much better.

Watson has treated Texans fans with mind-boggling plays since 2017. Sunday’s touchdown may have been the greatest.
