Texans name Davis Mills starting QB for the rest of the season

The Houston Texans have named Davis Mills the starting quarterback for the rest of the 2021 season.

Culley met with the media on Friday and announced the third-rounder from Stanford would lead the Texans for the final five games of the 2021 campaign.

“Davis will be the quarterback,” said Culley. “I feel like he gives us the best chance to win, and going forward, he’ll be the quarterback.”

Tyrod Taylor was the starting quarterback for the Texans heading into the season. Taylor strained his hamstring in Week 2 that provided for Mills to start in his absence for the next six games, going 0-6 in the process.

Upon Taylor’s return, the former 2015 Pro Bowler was the Texans’ starter, but a dismal 1-3 record along with ligament damage in his left wrist have allowed for Mills to get another shot at starting quarterback.

Houston is hopeful that Mills will be able to play more like he did in Week 5 in a 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots at NRG Stadium. Mills threw for over 300 yards.

“If he can do the things he did in the New England game, and I expect him to, he’ll be fine.”

Houston takes on the Seattle Seahawks Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time at NRG Stadium.
