Texans GM Nick Caserio says quarterback group ‘has made progress’

Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio is pleased with the direction the quarterbacks have taken through the first two weeks of training camp.

The first-year general manager joined “Payne & Pendergast” on Sports Radio 610 [KILT-AM] Tuesday and was asked about how Tyrod Taylor was progressing in camp.

“I think that group as a whole has made progress,” Caserio said. “Some days a better than others. Offense maybe has a good day, maybe the defense has a good day. Again, it’s not about who is better one day or the other. What you’re looking for is consistent improvement from your team both individually and collectively, and, again, this will be a good test for us this week to see how players handle the situation.”

If snaps in individual portion of training camp practice indicates anything, Taylor may be the leader in the clubhouse with Jeff Driskel behind him. Rookie third-rounder Davis Mills continues to learn the nuances of the pro game and is subsequently third.

“I think some players are making more progress than others,” said Caserio. “Again, more players could make more progress over the next two to three weeks. So, we’re going to let it all unfold, and we’re going to have to make some decisions here at the end of the month and try to put a plan together for what we think is best for our roster.”

The Texans also quarterback Deshaun Watson on the roster, but he has not taken part in any team portions of training camp and missed all of last week with a calf and ankle injury. Coach David Culley told reporters Tuesday that Watson was unlikely to play Saturday against the Green Bay Packers.
