Texans give aid to battered offensive line by signing OT Christian DiLauro

The Houston Texans bolstered their offensive line Sunday with the signing of free agent tackle Christian DiLauro.

The 6-6, 300-pound offensive lineman caught on as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns in 2018. DiLauro spent the entire offseason and preseason with the Browns until final cuts. While the former Illinois product managed to make the practice squad, it was for only a few days as the Browns let him go.

The San Francisco 49ers signed DiLauro to their practice squad by Week 4, and he spent the entire season with the NFC West club and even earned a reserve/future contract with the club. San Francisco waived DiLauro on Aug. 21 after two preseason games.

DiLauro managed to earn a spot on the Big Ten all-freshman team in 2014. The signing helps give the Texans depth for their fourth and final preseason game versus the Los Angeles Rams at NRG Stadium. With left tackle Matt Kalil certain to be held out, guards Zach Fulton and Senio Kelemete dealing with injuries, and rookie Tytus Howard recovering from a broken hand, the Texans offensive line just needs bodies to make it to Week 1 of the regular season.
