Texans cuts begin with Anger, Ferguson, and more

On Friday the Houston Texans began cutting their 90-man roster down to 53, and the first wave of cuts include one slight surprise.

According to Pro Football Talk and Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, former Indianapolis Colts running back Josh Ferguson has been cut along with rookies Javier Edwards, Jamal Davis, Jermaine Ponder, Marquice Shakir, Jesse Aniebonam, and Jordan Ta’amu.

Ferguson isn’t the only veteran to be cut so far. Former Tennessee Titans linebacker Gimel President is gone, former Miami Dolphins safety A.J. Hendy has been cut, as has 30-year-old former Jacksonville Jaguars punter Bryan Anger.

Anger is the biggest surprise so far as he has looked solid in his competition against Trevor Daniel. The veteran averaged 47.2 yards per punt on ten punts this preseason, with the second year Daniel averaging 43.3 yards over nine punts. While Anger has shown the bigger leg overall, Daniel has been more consistent landing them within the 20.
