Texans cancel media availability at NRG Stadium due to Tropical Depression Imelda flooding

The Houston Texans have canceled media availability for Thursday’s practice due to the effects of Tropical Depression Imelda.

Rather than have members of the media risk their lives to cover Thursday’s practice, which usually features availability with defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel and offensive coordinator Tim Kelly, the Texans public relations staff decided to cancel the media availability with the coordinators and open locker room. However, the coordinators could be made available for comment at later time via conference call.

The flooding in the Houston area is more spread out than it was when Hurricane Harvey rolled through in late August of 2017. Usually, the flooding in Houston is centralized in some areas of the metro area.

However, the flooding is spreading out even as far as the northern portions of Montgomery County and into Liberty County.

At the end of the day, sports is entertainment and a diversion from the grind of everyday life. There is no need to risk human lives in the pursuit of entertainment. The Texans made the right call.
