Texans believe they defended Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey well

To most, Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey scorched the Houston Texans defense on Sunday.

The do-it-all third-year back tallied 93 yards on 27 rushing attempts and an extra ten receptions (on ten targets) for 86 yards. In totality, McCaffrey left the outing with 179 yards on 37 touches, more than Deshaun Watson had in total yards.

Despite McCaffrey’s impressive performance, Texans coach Bill O’Brien feels as if his team defended him well.

“Christian’s a great player, Christian McCaffrey’s a great player,” said O’Brien on Monday. “I thought we did a decent job against him overall, though. He made some plays, he’s going to make some plays, he’s a great player. But I thought our guys held up pretty well.”

McCaffrey, statistically, had his second-best game of the season and his most receiving yards in an outing for 2019. The box score won’t give truth to O’Brien’s words. Nonetheless, the Texans head coach believes his team held him up pretty well.
