Tesco shoppers praise return of £1 nostalgic sweet 'for 90s kids'

Tesco shoppers have rushed to praise a sweet product that was a classic amongst kids who grew up in the 90s and before.

One customer spotted that the retail giant now stocks candy watches and necklaces in packets of six. The candy consists of fruit flavoured hard candy placed on string to resemble jewellery.

The candy has been a childhood staple for decades, being particularly popular amongst children growing up in the 1990s. However, it has been around far longer than that, being invented in the 1950s.

The shopper who spotted the nostalgic sweet was quick to share the news online with others. Writing in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, they said: "Found these in Tesco today for £1. Just a bit of nostalgia for us 90s kids."

Before long, the post had received almost 500 likes and 130 comments. Tesco fans and Facebook users were quick to share their thoughts about the classic candy.

"I loved them," one revealed, while a second echoed: "Wow I loved them as a kid".

"Miss the old sweets lol," a third commented.

A fourth meanwhile wrote: "I remember those days".

Others didn't have quite so fond memories of candy necklaces and watches, with one stating: "Hurts my teeth just looking at them".

"I have a love hate relationship with these things," shared a second.

Some Facebook users reminisced about how they use to use the string to fling part of the candy at others. One wrote: "Used to bite em in half and flick em at people I didn't like lol".

Some shoppers remembered using the candy as a "weapon" (Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group)

"Haha I loved turning this into weapons and flicking them at people," shared a second.

Other group members pointed out that the candy wasn't only nostalgic for those who grew up in the 90s. One revealed: "Was nostalgia for me and that was back in i the 60s. I remember the necklaces well."

"80's kids had them too," a second shared, while a third echoed: "Pre 90s children too".
