Tesco online shoppers' fury at Christmas delivery slots queuing chaos

Angry Tesco shoppers took to social media to complain about the online queues to bag a Christmas delivery slot.

Hundreds of thousands of people were online from 6am on Tuesday, as the coveted delivery dates were opened for customers who pay for Delivery Saver with the supermarket giant.

Regular online shoppers pay up to £7.99 monthly, which gives them early access ahead of the general release of delivery slots on November 23.

But furious Tesco shoppers complained of long waits for slots and then being unable to book when they were granted access to the site, according to the Sun newspaper.

One shopper said: "Joined before 6am, 300k place in the queue…

"An hour later, the wait was 10mins. Then it went back up to 40mins. Now the queue has been paused."

Another said: "Well just sat an hour and 20 minutes to book a @Tesco delivery slot. No slots left! So much for being a loyal weekly online customer for 20 years."

A third said: "Been waiting since 5.45am, queueing since, hubby opened the app and gets straight in nearly two hours after I joined the queue. Not happy."

Anyone else who's not signed up will have to wait until November 23.

Last year Tesco warned customers that it was almost sold out of Christmas delivery slots - a day before they were widely released, due to shoppers scrambling to book slots as the country was in lockdown.

But not all customers were complaining - some said the system was working better than last year.

"Much better online Christmas delivery booking system this year from @Tesco," one shopper tweeted.

"The queue works well and estimated wait meant only having to check the screen a few times.

"An hour after the start time and there were still slots left for two thirds of the 23rd after I had finished."

A Tesco Spokesperson said: “We experienced high volumes of traffic to our website and groceries app and temporarily limited the number of customers using it.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience this caused and would like to reassure customers that there are still slots available for both home delivery and click and collect over the Christmas period.”
