Tesco stores around Ireland will operate with extended opening hours over the Christmas period – with many running on a 24-hour basis from December 21 until Christmas Eve.
Over 40 of the retail giant's stores will operate the rolling 24-hour schedule in order to "support a safe and easy shopping experience for customers during the festive season."
And many will operate on an extended schedule – opening from 7am until midnight – from December 18 until December 21.
The 24-hour opening means you can pop into Tesco at literally any time between December 21 and 24 – as long as your local store is one of those involved in the extended opening.
Tesco has promised its stocks will be topped up with daily deliveries in the run-up to Christmas, and is encouraging customers to consider shopping earlier, at off-peak times and alone where possible.
All stores will close at 7pm on Christmas Eve in order to allow Tesco staff to "return home to their families in time for Santa's arrival," according to a statement from the retailer.
Tesco has also said that it will give priority access to customers over 65, family carers and those who are "extremely medically vulnerable", allowing them dedicated access hours before 9am Monday to Friday.
Tesco CEO Kari Daniels said: "The safety of colleagues and customers remains our number one priority and we continue to make changes within our stores as we prepare for the Christmas trading period.
"We hope that these extended hours, up to 24 hours in 40 of our larger stores during Christmas week, will help make the shopping trip easier for our customers.
"Our store teams have gone above and beyond this year and we acknowledge their continued hard work in helping serve our shoppers this Christmas."
