Tesco is has announced new changes to make it easier for shoppers to get a delivery slot.
All supermarkets have been in high demand since the start of the coronavirus pandemic and have introduced extensive measures to make sure the public are getting the supplies they need.
One issue people have faced is getting a home delivery slot with stores continually having to increase its capacity.
In his latest email to customers, Tesco's CEO Dave Lewis said that before the crisis, seven per cent of its grocery sales were delivered to homes - which works out at around one in 15 households.
This has now increased to 35% of this market segment.
He goes on to say that Tesco staff pick 90% of online orders from our stores and to increase capacity for deliveries and Click+Collect, they've closed stores overnight and recruited 12,000 new colleagues to pick these orders, and 4,000 new drivers to deliver them.
Over one million deliveries are being made this week and Mr Lewis announced that this will increase further to 1.2 million slots in the next two weeks.
In a further change, the supermarket has limited people's accounts to one order a week to help increase the number of delivery slots available.
The new rule applies to all Tesco customers including those on the vulnerable list and with a Delivery Saver account.
Tesco confirmed the move when replying to customers on Twitter.
They said: "Thanks for getting in touch. Your account will be limited to one order per week.
"We've introduced a limit of one order per week, to help more customers secure a delivery slot.
"One slot a week applies to all Tesco Customers, not just those with a Delivery Saver Plan."
Mr Lewis also said in his latest email: "If you can shop in-store, or use Click+Collect, please do. This will help us free up more online slots for people who need them most.
"I'm very grateful to the customers who have done this already. To anyone who has struggled to get a slot, we apologise.
"Be assured we are doing everything we can to make more online slots available, so that we can support anyone – whether they’re a new or existing customer – who needs extra help at this time."
