The veteran TV and radio broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan has died aged 77.
The 77-year-old passed away on Sunday morning shortly after being diagnosed with a form of cancer, his family said.
With a career spanning more than five decades, Sir Terry is fondly remembered for his tenure on BBC Show Children in Need.
Fronting the fundraising effort since it began in 1980, Sir Terry hosted the show for more than 30 years before pulling out for the first time in November due to health reasons.
He became synonymous with the yellow bear and its colourful eye patch.
In response to his death, the artist Darren ‘Birdie’ Bird posted a cartoon which has since been retweeted more than 1,000 times.
Depicting Pudsey with a black band, a single tear rolling down his cheek and clutching the flower, he captioned it: “Such sad news to hear of the loss of Terry Wogan, a broadcasting legend who helped lighten many peoples lives [sic].”
Gary Hopkins replied saying: “This is how the country thinks today. Thank you it certainly brought many tears to my eyes this morning.”
Children in Need has raised more than £790 million for charity.
