Terry McLaurin opens up about his nickname preferences

A good sign that you’ve made it in the NFL is when a nickname has been gifted to you, and from there on out, your full name is rarely used anymore.

That has been the case for Washington Redskins rookie receiver Terry McLaurin, who burst onto the scene through the first six weeks of his career to the tune of 408 yards and five touchdowns. He also has risen to the No. 10 overall receiver in fantasy football through the first third of the season.

Because of this, fans and media members have started to refer to McLaurin as ‘Scary Terry’ whenever his playmaking abilities grace the field. It’s a fine nickname, McLaurin says, but he is partial to a few others.

While noting that he’d prefer something more original — NBA player Terry Rozier has donned the nickname ‘Scary Terry’ for a couple of years now — McLaurin said that he is more partial to ‘F1 McLaurin’ due to the play on words and alluding to the car. However, in the end, the Rookie of the Year candidate said he’s fine with no nickname at all.

“I don’t even look at myself like I necessarily need to have a nickname,” said F1 McLaurin. “I just go out there and play ball, honestly. I’m just that simple of a person.”
