Terror suspect's wife held in extortion case

BENGALURU: Shivamogga police have arrested the wife of a terror suspect from Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada in an extortion case. The accused is Saira Banu, wife of Saddam Hussein Bhatkal, who is imprisoned atCentral Prison (Parappana Agrahara) on charges of terror activities.

Her arrest follows a complaint by a businessman who received an extortion call on WhatsApp on October 14. Introducing himself as Hebbet Manja, the caller allegedly asked the businessman to transfer Rs 5 lakh to an account. Police said the businessman credited Rs 50,000.

When he got repeated internet calls from various numbers from other countries demanding ransom, he lodged a complaint at Shivamogga cyberpolice station.A poice team got details of the bank account and found it was linked to Saira Banu. tnn
