Terrifying video captures police chase through town before driver tries to hide in bushes

Shocking footage captures a police chase through a Greater Manchester town. Stuart Haslam led cops on a terrifying pursuit - before trying to hide in bushes.

'Dangerous' Haslam, 44, can be seen squeezing his Vauxhall Astra — using false number plates — in between other traffic in Dukinfield, Tameside. He also drove across green areas of the town and down a pedestrianised alleyway.

Video released by police today shows Haslam’s desperate attempts to flee. The driver, of Cunliffe Street, Hyde, dumped his car and tried to hide in bushes.

However, he could not fool the officers pursuing him, who apprehended him at the scene. He led officers on his reckless journey through Dukinfield on March 29 earlier this year.

Now, Haslam has been jailed for 16 months for four offences. He was also banned from driving after his conviction for dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, failing to stop at a collision, and failing to stop for police.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Roads Policing Unit say there could have been ‘devastating’ consequences. PC Oliver Garner, from the unit, said: “Haslam’s driving was dangerous – he drove a vehicle down a footpath which local residents were using. The consequences of his actions had the potential to be devastating.”

The footage is not the first chase this year to end with police officers catching criminals on foot. In February, Mohaned Mustafa, of Thorncombe Road, Moss Side, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs, dangerous driving and driving without a license or insurance.

The 23-year-old was jailed for seven years. Officers began chasing a car being driven by Mohaned Mustafa in December 2021 after spotting it speeding, performing dangerous overtakes and weaving in and out of traffic in the Kings Road area.

After crashing into two parked vehicles, Mustafa got out of the car and ran down the middle of the road. Bodycam video shows officers can be heard shouting 'Get on the floor now' and Get your hands out now' as one points a taser at drug dealer.
