Terrifying moment emergency door of plane suddenly opens in middle of flight over Brazil

Passengers were left terrified after an emergency door suddenly burst open mid-flight while flying over Brazil.

The stomach-churning footage was captured on a flight between Sao Luis to Salvador on Monday and happened 30 minutes into the journey.

According to local media, the plane was carrying members of popular South American singer Tierry's band, who was returning from a show.

Instruments and luggage were placed near the back of the plane and by the hatch which unexpectedly opened.

One passenger filmed the ordeal and the footage shows the nail-biting view from out of the wide open door down to the ground thousands of feet below.

The clip shows the clouds drifting past as the air rushes in and objects flapping around the passengers.

Most passengers are seen turned away and not looking out of the door, as they try to remain calm.

According to reports, the pilot calmed the passengers down before making a successful emergency landing at Hugo da Cunha Machado airport and luckily no one was hurt.

Air investigators are now looking at what went wrong on the aircraft.

Singer Tierry, who has seven million Instagram followers, had played a concert in Sao Luis before the flight.

At the end of May, an Asiana Airlines jet door opened as it was coming in to land in Daegu, South Korea, leaving passengers gripping onto their armrests for dear life.

It has since been revealed that a man in his 30s, who was sitting in the emergency seat, yanked the door open when the aircraft was about 700 feet above the ground and about two to three minutes from landing in the city 150 miles south of Seoul.

The police arrested a male passenger once the plane landed and say he confessed to opening the door but did not say why he did it.

Witnesses said children began shaking with fear and crying when the door of the Asiana Airlines plane opened suddenly.

The plane carrying 194 passengers landed safely, but some panicked passengers showed symptoms of breathing difficulties and were immediately taken to a hospital.

Aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas of Airline Ratings told CNN: "Technically, it’s not possible to open those doors in flight. It seems implausible that the door could be opened in the first place and then against the airstream technically impossible, but somehow or another it has happened."
