Terrifying failed robbery of pensioner on Ayrshire street

Detectives are investigating the failed robbery of an elderly woman on an Ayrshire street.

The 72-year-old woman was walking down Chapelwell Street in Saltcoats at 10.40am on Wednesday, March 9 when a woman threatened her and demanded money.

The suspect ran away and no money was stolen.

She is described as being between 35 and 39-years-old, of heavy build, around 5ft 5in, with dark hair and wearing a dark blue three-quarter length jacket with black trousers.

Police say they're also investigating an assault of the woman but have confirmed she sustained no injuries.

Detective Constable James Wales, of Ayrshire CID, said: “This was a frightening experience for the victim who luckily did not sustain any injuries.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing to trace the woman responsible.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident who may have witnessed what happened, or any motorists who were in the area with dash cam footage, to please come forward.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101, quoting incident number 2628 of Wednesday, 9 March, 2022. "Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
