Terrified teenagers run in to shop for help after racist gang attack

Three teenagers were left with cuts to their faces after being chased into a shop during a racist attack.

The men, aged 18, 17 and 19 had been walking in the park close to Claughton Road, Birkenhead, when they were confronted by a large group of youths at around 8.30pm on Thursday, April 8.

They were then chased by the group, racially abused and assaulted causing cuts and bruising to their faces and bodies.

The terrified teens sought refuge in a shop on Claughton Road but were followed and the attack continued.

Detectives have now issued CCTV images of four people they would like to speak to.

Detective Inspector Matt Caton said: "This was an unprovoked assault on three teenagers by a much larger group of youths. They were also subjected to racist comments. Thankfully none of them were seriously injured but clearly this behaviour is unacceptable.

"We would like to speak to the four males pictured as we believe they may have information which is vital to our investigation. Anyone who recognises the males or can assist our enquiries is asked to get in touch as soon as possible."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We have issued CCTV images of four people we would like to speak to after three teenagers were assaulted in Birkenhead.
