Terraced home on sale hides back garden exotic enough for a holiday escape

A stunning five-bedroom end-of-terrace house has gone on sale - and the property hides a back garden surprise perfect for the hot summer days.

Located in London's East End, the Grade II listed home is a stone's throw from many popular celebrity haunts and has a price tag to match, having gone on the market for a cool £2m.

The house was built in the Georgian era and original features remain in place including working fireplaces, high ceilings and ornate cornicing.

At the back you'll find an Instagram-worthy Far Eastern-themed garden and sunken heated swimming pool - meaning you'll be able to carry on making a splash when the warm weather disappears.

It's matched by an incredible interior spanning five floors with a reception room, an orangery with a giant glass roof, five bedrooms and four bathrooms.

The home is in Bow Road, the same street where the notorious Kray twins opened the Double R Club in 1957.

It became popular night-life hangout for both locals and celebrities, with famous faces including Barbara Windsor claimed to have been spotted there, before it eventually closed down and is now used as an Enterprise Car Rental branch.

Marten Street, owner of the property, says the area is still home to a number of high-profile names and a few celebrities have already been o view the listing.

He believes the house he bought in 2005 was once home to the actor George Innes, who appeared in the original Italian Job movie.

Marten, an interior designer, said he has spent years transforming the space after arriving at the home with "just a mattress".

"I wanted to do right by the house," he said. "I really wanted to be able to sit and have some water to look out on.

"I did the pool very properly, with concrete, and then marble tiles, which will age beautifully as they get older.

"The house would suit a young professional couple or a family or anyone who loves to be able to swim.

"We have good schools, we're opposite the underground and lots of bus routes and the city airport is a quick trip away."

Marten is moving to the countryside with his family to start work on a new renovation project.

Estate agent Sue Pownell, of Purple Bricks, added: "It is the most beautiful house and has everything you need for living in London."
