Teofimo Lopez confirms date for proposed Josh Taylor fight

Teofimo Lopez has taken to social media to confirm that a proposed clash with Josh Taylor will take place on June 10.

The former unified lightweight world champion announced the fight to fans on Twitter alongside a video of him running.

The caption read: “MARK YOUR CALENDAR  06/10/2023 LOPEZ TAYLOR.”

The bout has been in the pipeline for a number of weeks, with New York’s Madison Square Garden a potential venue.

WBO super lightweight champion Taylor had been due to face Jack Catterall in a rematch earlier this month before suffering a foot injury.

Lopez has fought twice at super-lightweight since losing his WBA, IBF and WBO titles to George Kambosos Jr. in November 2021.

Speaking recently about the prospect of fighting in New York, Taylor said: “New York, Madison Square Garden - the prospect of that is just amazing.

"I always said as a kid, 'One day I'm going to fight in Madison Square Garden' and potentially here we are.

"The prospect of that is unbelievable. It's another one ticked off the bucket list, another dream come true.”
