Tenacious journalist to write tell-all book on David and Victoria Beckham

Beckhams, watch out. A tough journalist who is famous for ferreting out famous people’s deepest secrets has set his sights on David and Victoria Beckham, The Londoner can reveal.

Tom Bower, right, who has written biographies of Boris Johnson, Meghan Markle and Robert Maxwell, is currently researching for a book, and enjoying himself. Bower said he has found the challenge “a lot more exciting and interesting than I thought it would be”, adding the subject has “got everything, sex, fashion, celebrity, money.”

The Beckhams have a well-managed public image, but have had their fair share of scandals over the years, including infidelity rumours, tax avoidance rows, and leaked emails showing David angry about not getting a honour from the Queen.

The Beckhams have deep pockets that they could use to try to constrain the book, but Bower won’t be put off. “That would only encourage me,” he said, before adding sarcastically: “I wouldn’t dream of writing anything negative.”

Bower, who also wrote a book about Jeremy Corbyn, had considered writing about Labour leader and possible next PM Keir Starmer. But on reflection, he felt he is “too boring”. “I don’t think anyone would buy it,” he sighed.

Tory mayoral chaos leads to calls for an enquiry

Tories are angry as their search for a mayoral candidate is in chaos, with two of the final three linked to scandals. Last night, writer Daisy Goodwin accused Daniel Korski of groping her in No 10, which he denies. Earlier, Mozammel Hossain’s staff were seen in a Partygate video.

Nic Conner, who helped on a failed bid by Samuel Kasumu, tells us the Tory chairman should do an inquiry into the selection “before the party is damaged even more”. Kasumu’s book, The Power of the Outsider, is out this week. The other candidate, Susan Hall, has so far avoided disaster but has flirted with cock-ups. Her first draft for a slogan was “Hall’s Got Balls”. It’s now “Safer with Susan”.

Actors Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen were at a party at Louie in Covent Garden last night after the premiere of their new film, Indiana Jones and the Dial Of Destiny. Waller-Bridge has said that as a tomboy she was thrilled to do an Indy film with Harrison Ford. In it, Ford is made young again with CGI technology, which made PWB consider the process of ageing. “I’m so grateful for what it affords you,” she says. “Less grateful for what it affords your skin and face”.
