Ten people rescued after sailboat giving lesson to teenagers is smashed onto rocks on the Jersey shore

Ten people were rescued after a sailboat giving a lesson to a group of teenagers was swept onto rocks on the Jersey shore after its engine failed.

The boat, named What Exit from the Avalon Yacht Club in New Jersey, lost power in its engine and was dragged into a jetty at around 11am on Wednesday (July 23).

Those on board were forced to don life vests and jump into the ocean as the boat began to sink.

Forty life guards and several agencies helped get the two instructors and eight teens to safety.

Avalon Beach Patrol Chief Matt Wolf said it was the wildest rescue he’d seen in 28 years on the job.
