This Thursday, Jon Stewart will sign off from the Daily Show one last time, and we’re anything but zen about it.
His tenure began way back on 11 January 1999, in a different century and, in many ways, a different America. In that time he has gifted the public with thousands of hours of incisive satire that brought the country’s most powerful down to earth.
When we first learned of Stewart’s departure in February, the Guardian gathered some of its favorite clips from the show including his epic mockery of Glenn Beck’s doomsday-mongering and his raw, heartfelt monologue in the aftermath of 11 September.
Obviously that list is far from comprehensive. So we’re asking our readers:
Since Stewart is nothing if not a man of the people, we thought we would ask you, America, to tell us your favorite moments from the Daily Show.
Head to the comments section and tell us your favorite moment or episode from the Daily Show. If you have a link to the video, please include it, along with a short line about why you think it’s the best. Any segment, episode or series (like the running Stewart/Stephen Colbert/Conan O’Brien feud) is eligible. If you feel that a correspondent’s segment deserves some love (remember the time Colbert lost it during a report on Prince Charles?) you are free to nominate that. And while Stewart had many silly moments, the times when he showed his serious side are far from off limits.
We’ll compile the most popular results from our readers, and reveal them ahead of the finale on 6 August.
