HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MPs moved a privilege motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remark on the passage of the Telangana formation bill in the Parliament.
TRS Rajya Sabha floor leader K Keshava Rao, other MPs Joginapally Santosh Kumar, B Lingaiah Yadav, KR Suresh Reddy gave notice copy to Rajya Sabha deputy chairman on Thursday.
"We wish to move a privilege motion under Rule 187, against the PM Narendra Modi for his statement in the Rajya Sabha on February 8, during the motion of thanks to Presidential address on passage of the AP Reorganization Bills in the most shameful manner, in the two houses of Parliament," Keshava Rao said.
He said the statement attempts to show the Parliament houses in the worst, contemptuous manner, denigrating, demeaning the procedures and proceedings of the house and its functioning.
The MPs said the PM's remarks tantamount to finding fault with the MPs and presiding officers for their conduct in the house.
"Even the decision of the presiding officer, to close the doors of the house to prevent the spread of disorder or mischief of handful members, is brought under question," the TRS leader said.
Keshava Rao said the PM openly questioned the procedures adopted by the presiding officers and management of the house during the passage of the Bills on February 20, 2014, in Lok Sabha and February 21, 2014 in Rajya Sabha.
The presiding officer, according to the Rule Book, is always final. Finding fault with such conduct of the presiding officer was not correct.
The TRS MPs who gave notice to the Rajya Sabha secretariat boycotted the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Even Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge supported the TRS MPs on privilege motion against the PM.
TRS is attacking the PM after his comments on the formation of Telangana and even held statewide protests on Wednesday.
