HYDERABAD: With heavy rains lashing the state since Friday, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has put the administration on high alert and instructed chief secretary Somesh Kumar to take necessary measures in the rain-hit areas. The CM also asked the chief secretary to hold a video-conference with district collectors on the rain situation apart from alerting NDRF and rescue teams in the flood-hit areas.
Almost all districts of the state, especially northern Telangana, have been witnessing heavy rains following IMD's red alert to Telangana and Maharashtra. The CM asked ministers, MPs, MLAs, local bodies representatives and other people's representatives to monitor the situation in their respective areas and participate in rescue and relief operations and also ensure no loss of life.
As many irrigation projects on Godavari and Pranahita were receiving huge inflows from neighbouring Maharashtra and also from other water sources, KCR has alerted irrigation authorities and instructed them to send alerts to low-lying areas.
Due to the heavy rains, the CM deferred the proposed 'Revenue Sadassus' (revenue awareness programme) scheduled to begin from July 15. He also deferred the meeting with ministers, and district collectors at Pragati Bhavan on July 11 on Revenue Sadassus. The new schedule for the conduct of the two programmes would be announced after normalcy returns to the state.
The CM appealed to the people not to venture out of their homes unless there was an emergency and take precautions.
