Telangana BJP demands CBI probe in minor girl's rape case

HYDERABAD: Alleging the Telangana police were trying to dilute the minor girl’s rape case and protect relatives of people in power involved in the crime, the Telangana BJP demanded that the case should be transferred to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or inquired with a sitting judge.

The CBI would unravel the facts and would send a strong message that such incidents would not be tolerated and culprits, however big they may be, would be punished as per the law.

BJP MLA M Raghunandan Rao at a press conference on Saturday said that an MIM MLA’s son was involved in the rape incident and some of the accused have already fled to other countries like Dubai to escape from the arrest.

Showing some CCTV footage clips of the car, in which the alleged rape happened, showing to the media, the MLA said they have evidences that MLA’s son was also involved in the crime. He said he would hand over the evidence including footage to the police and also court. Raghunandan said the police were showing and seized only one car while the incident occurred in Innova car and Benz car was registered in the name of MLA’s sister.

“How minors were allowed into pubs against the rules and the police did not look into the issues like who booked the pub for the event,” the BJP MLA said.

BJP state leaders N Ramachander Rao, general secretary Bangaru Shruthi and ex MLA NVSS Prabhakar met DGP M Mahender Reddy and submitted a representation asking for a CBI probe. They said though the incident had happened on May 27, the police took five days to register the FIR that gives suspicion that there was an attempt to obfuscate the facts.

They said the police named one accused as being a member of an official of the government of Telangana, but there are reports on the involvement of the son of a sitting MLA from the MIM. The leaders alleged that it is unfortunate that Hyderabad is increasingly becoming a haven for such incidents. Things are happening due to the laxity of the police force in auditing pubs and restaurants, which have become haven for fissiparous tendencies.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
