Teens arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after man suffers 'obscene' violence

Two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was seriously assaulted on his way to work.

Police said the 37-year-old victim was lucky to be alive after the "frankly obscene" level of violence inflicted on him near Ferndale, Birch Green in Skelmersdale.

Emergency services were called to the area at around 7.30am on Easter Sunday (April 4).

The man was assaulted near to Firbeck in Skelmersale but managed to stagger down the street to Ferndale, Birch Green, a third of a mile away.

He was rushed to Aintree Hospital in a serious condition and is now recovering at home.

Detectives released a photograph of the man and his horrific injuries last week in an attempt to persuade members of the public to come forward and help their enquiry.

In an update today, Lancashire Police confirmed that a 17-year-old and 19-year-old from Skelmersdale were arrested last week on suspicion of attempted murder.

They have since been bailed pending further enquiries.

An investigation is ongoing and detectives are continuing to appeal for the public's help.

Det Sgt Karen Harrsion, of Skelmersdale CID, said: “While we have made two arrests our enquiries are very much continuing and I would appeal to anyone who has any information or footage which could assist to get in touch with us.

“The victim of this assault received some really serious injuries and continues to recover.”
