Teenagers seriously injured in early hours crash in Bury

A teenage boy and girl have been taken to hospital with serious injuries following an early hours crash in Bury.

Just after 2.15am, a car crashed into two parked vehicles and a tree on Parkhills Road.

Firefighters had to cut the 18-year-old boy from the car, while the girl, 16, was attended to roadside by the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) .

Both suffered serious injuries, but were conscious and breathing when they were taken to Salford Royal Hospital.

Watch manager Kay, from Whitefield Community Fire Station, said: "We attended an RTC on Parkhills Road, Bury. It was a car into two parked cars and a tree.

"There were two casualties, both conscious and breathing taken into hospital by NWAS.

"We performed rapid extracation on the adult male and the adult female was attended roadside by the fire service and NWAS."

A spokesman for NWAS added: "We were called at 2.16am and attended with two ambulances, and a rapid response vehicle.

"There were two patients, both with serious injuries, one male and one female."

Images taken from the scene show a black Nissan Micra badly smashed up.

A section of the road was closed for around three hours, but has since re-opened.

One eyewitness, who lives in the area, said: "It woke me and my wife up. The noise was loud.

"I came outside to find carnage. There were debris everywhere, I hope those involved are ok."

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called shortly after 2.25am this morning (Monday, March 2, 2020) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and two parked vehicles on Parkhills Road in Bury.

"An 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital, where they remain in a serious but stable condition.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
