Teenager on a high after balloon released three years ago is found 400 miles away

A balloon that was sent soaring from a Paisley school back in 2015 has been found more than 400 miles away.

It was launched as part of a balloon release after the Heriot Primary prom four years ago.

And the card attached to it has only just been returned to the school by a man called Matt Clarke, who found it all the way down in Somerset.

The balloon was released by Kyle McGregor, who is now 15.

And he was thrilled to see the identification card he attached to the balloon again.

“I was excited,” he said.

“I told my mum about it, but she didn’t believe me!

“I’ll be taking it home to show her.”

On the card, Kyle, now a pupil at Paisley’s Gleniffer High, wrote of his hopes for the future.

“I hope that I will be a truck driver,” he noted.

“I hope that I will have a nice house.” Since then, Kyle has changed his choice of career.

“I want to be a train driver,” he said.

But the teenager is till hoping to have a nice house of his own when he is older.

Hilary Paterson, headteacher of Heriot Primary, said she was thrilled for Kyle and that the balloon had travelled so far and was kindly returned by the finder.

She said: “At the end of the prom that year, the pupils went out into the playground and did a balloon release.

“They also wrote down their wishes and dreams for the future.

“We’ve had one or two responses, but never so far way as this one.

“And, when we got the card back, it was a real coincidence that Kyle was volunteering here at the school.”
