Teenager attacked with hammers by masked thugs who gatecrashed 18th birthday party

A teenage boy was seriously injured after being attacked by a gang of hammer-wielding masked thugs at an 18th birthday party.

Around 100 people were inside Sedgley Park Rugby Club in Whitefield when three men gatecrashed the party at 11.15pm on Saturday.

Bosses at the club say the gang tried to break into the club, but were unable to do so.

A fight then broke out on the car park, which resulted in a 16-year-old boy being attacked with hammers.

He suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

However, he has since been discharged.

No arrests have been made and an investigation is underway.

Detectives visited the club on Sunday to look through CCTV footage.

GMP have now issued an appeal for witnesses to the attack.
