Teen stuck down old mineshaft after 'losing his phone' rescued

Rescue crews retrieved the boy in under and hour.

Emergency services have rescued a teenager who became trapped in an old mineshaft in a state park north-east of Melbourne after apparently dropping his phone.

He was discovered by a passer-by in Tills Road near the Warrandyte State Park's Black Flat area just before 5:00pm.

Police said it is believed the 13-year-old lost his phone and went in to retrieve it.

"He was checked over by paramedics at the scene but was not injured," a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

"He managed to retrieve his phone."

Nine CFA vehicles were at the scene at the Warrandyte State Park's Black Flat area.
