Teen, 16, with no underlying health problems dies after testing positive for coronavirus

A 16-year-old Brit with no underlying health conditions has died after contracting coronavirus.

Tragic new figures have detailed the toll of the pandemic this year.

The death, recorded in England, came just a day after a 13-year-old girl, again with no underlying health conditions, died of the virus in hospital.

In Scotland, 29 new coronavirus deaths were recorded in the last 24-hour period.

There were 803 cases of the deadly virus identified across the country in the same time period.

The Scottish death toll now stands at 6,945 since the start of the pandemic last March.

9,053 deaths have been registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

A total of 1,154 patients are currently being treated in hospital for the deadly virus with 102 in intensive care.

It comes as indoor care home visits will resume in Scotland next month.

The Scottish Government confirmed on Saturday that routine visits will begin from 'early march'.

Care home Covid-19 deaths in Scotland have fallen by 62 per cent in the past three weeks.

A further 307 deaths following a positive test were recorded by hospitals in England today, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The deaths occurred between January 12 and February 19.

Data reveals that the deaths were between the ages of 16 and 100.

And and all except four, aged between 16 and 68, had known underlying health conditions.

A further 32 deaths were reported by the NHS with no positive Covid-19 test result.

81,046 have now died of coronavirus in England since the pandemic began last March.

120,365 people have died in the UK within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 in all settings.

A further 445 deaths were recorded across the UK in the last 24 hours.
