Tech Brief (Nov. 24): Wingtech Urges Talks to Restore Control Over Nexperia

Wingtech Presses Nexperia's Dutch HQ for Talks Shanghai-listed Wingtech Technology Co. Ltd. said in a Nov. 23 statement that Nexperia’s Dutch headquarters has failed to respond to its goodwill and proposals for talks following an “improper intervention” by the Netherlands' Ministry of Economic Affairs. Wingtech said it is demanding that the Dutch headquarters propose a “constructive and truly sincere solution” to restore Wingtech’s legal control and full shareholder rights.

CXMT Unveils New DDR5 Products

On Nov. 23, ChangXin Memory Technologies Inc. (CXMT) released its latest DDR5 memory product series at the 22nd IC China in Shanghai. The new series features speeds of up to 8,000 megabits per second and a maximum single-die capacity of 24 gigabits. The company also launched seven types of modules and new products, including UDIMM, SODIMM and RDIMM, targeting servers, workstations and personal computers.

Tencent Makes €1.16 Billion Investment in Ubisoft Subsidiary

French gaming company Ubisoft Entertainment SA announced on Nov. 21 that Tencent Holdings Ltd. has completed a 1.16 billion euros ($1.34 billion) investment in its subsidiary Vantage Studios, acquiring a 26.32% stake. Vantage Studios is built around three major game series: ‘Assassin’s Creed,’ ‘Far Cry’ and ‘Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six.’ Ubisoft said the proceeds from the deal will be used to reduce the group’s debt and to fund specific investment projects.

XPeng Enters Hybrid Vehicle Market

More automakers that once focused on pure electric vehicles have been expanding their product lines to include extended-range hybrid models since this year. XPeng Inc. became the latest to join this trend, launching its first extended-range product on Nov. 20, ahead of the Guangzhou auto show. XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng said on Nov. 21 that the company will launch seven “dual-power” models in 2026, with three extended-range models set to debut in the first quarter. 

GAC Doubles Down on Battery Swapping

Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. Ltd. (GAC Group) will cooperate with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. in all aspects of battery swapping, GAC Group General Manager Ge Xianqing said on Nov. 21 during the Guangzhou auto show. Ge said all future A-class models under GAC’s Aion new-energy vehicle brand will be capable of both charging and battery swapping. GAC’s premium brand, Hyptec, introduced battery-swapping models in 2023, and the group previously set a target to build more than 500 battery-swapping stations by 2025.
