Tears on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing for Matt Goss as fans blame trousers for exit

It was an emotional farewell for Matt Goss on Strictly this week as he and professional dance partner Nadiya Bychkova gave their last performance on the show. However, while many were touched by the singer's reaction at the end of the episode others joined in to speculate on other reasons for Matt's tears.

The dance couple found themselves in the bottom two during Sunday night's results show on October 16. The pair faced the dreaded dance-off and up against former soap star Kym Marsh and her professional dance partner Graziano Di Prima.

Kym, 46, and Graziano impressed the judges with their second performance of their samba to Volare by Gipsy Kings, however, when the 54-year-old Bros star and his partner rolled out their jive for the second time in the BBC One dance contest it didn't go down as well.

After both couples had danced, the judges delivered their verdicts, with all four opting to save Kym and Graziano. Craig Revel Horwood commented: “I think both couples went up a major notch – I mean, Matt, you went fantastically mad in that, I loved it, and Kym, you were really great in that. But the couple I would like to save is Kym and Graziano.”

Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas, added: "I also felt that both couples were 100% committed, spot-on performances today. But the couple with a little bit more technical skill was Kym and Graziano and that’s who I’d save."

Speaking to host Tess Daly after the results, Matt, said: "It’s an extraordinary experience." Thanking the judges and his partner he said: "Thank you judges for your candour, you’ve helped me in many ways. My posture – Anton, I am more aware of it. This lovely lady beside me, a world champion with all the patience. I am very honoured to have danced with you, and everyone who is still in, I love you guys, go smash it guys."

After Nadiya praised her dance partner and hit back at critics, Matt wiped away tears as he emotionally said: "I'm sorry I'm emotional, I'm an emotional person... I wish my mum was here and my sister was here. You really have... the British public have made me feel really welcome so thank you."

However, Manchester Evening News spotted that social media users had more to say on the topic of Matt's tears and his downfall when facing the third public vote. One person tweeted: "Matt might have done a bit better if they hadn't dressed him in ill-fitting trousers every week #StrictlyComeDancing." Another said: "Is Matt losing his trousers? #Strictly."

It comes after Strictly viewers noted that week after week that Matt's trousers didn't appear to fit properly. Another person commented: "They really need to get Matt Goss some better fitting trousers…" And another said: "Can the costume department please sort out Matt’s trousers out #Strictly."

Others had more sympathy. "Way to go Matt Goss you gave your all, what a dance off. Am in tears, you are such a lovely guy, seeing you grow has been beautiful, being so vulnerable is inspirational many could take a leaf out your book. So glad to have you back in UK. You deserve so much love @mattgoss". Another added: "OMG I’m in tears" and someone else wrote: "Actually in tears on a vote-off for the first time ever. Welcome home, Matt, there's a big amount of love out here for you. Your dance off was your best dance and we were applauding it in our front room. Such a nice man, you'll be missed on Saturday nights".
