Teachers not asked to track boozers: Bihar education minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary

PATNA: State education minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said schoolteachers have not been tasked with catching hold of people consuming liquor. He said the education department officials have been told to create awareness regarding prohibition through teachers.

Choudhary was replying to a short answered question of Congress MLC Prem Chandra Mishra in Bihar Vidhan Parishad on Friday. Mishra had raised the issue of roping in teachers to catch people consuming liquor. Choudhary said the state government had made an appeal to all the responsible citizens to create awareness and teachers were also a part of it.

However, JD(U) MLC Sanjeev Kumar Singh along with other members of the Upper House expressed dissatisfaction with the reply and called it an important issue. Singh even read the order of the education department in which teachers were given the task and on the instruction of acting chairperson, he kept the copy of that order on the desk.

However, Choudhary once again told the House that officials have been asked to hold meetings with shiksha samitis and create awareness. “All the citizens have been asked to inform about people consuming liquor. Their identity will not be disclosed while taking action against those using liquor,” Choudhary said.
