TE Darren Waller named Raiders most ‘intriguing project’ player

Entering the 2019 season, the starters for the Raiders’ offense are basically set. However, the one spot that could produce some healthy competition is at tight end. One player who is poised for a breakout season is former Georgia Tech wide receiver, Darren Waller.

In a recent article by Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report, Waller was named the Raiders’ most intriguing project player entering training camp. With Jared Cook off to New Orleans and no other proven player on the roster, Waller has the “chance of a lifetime” according to head coach, Jon Gruden. Take a look at why Sobleski believes Waller could be in for a breakout season in 2019:

“Since the time he’s walked in here, he’s been one of the most impressive guys on our team,” head coach Jon Gruden said last month, per The Athletic’s Jimmy Durkin. “… He’s extremely talented. I think he’s going to be one of the best-kept secrets in the league. I really believe he’s got a future if he keeps working like he is.

Waller is a fantastic athlete with great size who is still learning the position after making the conversion from wide receiver to tight end. If he can continue to improve as rapidly as he did in 2018, the sky is the limit for Waller. Look for him to get ample opportunities to prove himself during training camp, the preseason and into the regular season.
