TE Caleb Wilson hasn’t been playing TE for long

The Arizona Cardinals made former UCLA tight end Caleb Wilson the final pick in the 2019 draft. He was the nation’s most productive tight end in the passing game, leading the nation with 965 yards.

However, he hasn’t always been a tight end.

He played quarterback in high school and changed to tight end when he walked on at USC, writes Kyle Odegard for the official team site.

He felt like he wasn’t a good enough quarterback to go far in football.

Now he has a chance to make the Cardinals roster.

He isn’t a lock by any means, as the Cardinals already have players on the roster with experience like Charles Clay, Maxx Williams and Ricky Seals-Jones.

Wilson knows he needs to improve his blocking. He has the goal to be a three-down player, able to be versatile and capable of everything.

However, he does see himself as a fit in the offense now.

“I feel like I fit in the offense well,” Wilson said, according to Odegard. “I can help stretch the field and make plays for us.”

Still weeks before training camp, it looks like he will have to outdo Seals-Jones as a receiver and show he is adequate enough of a blocker. If he can, he might be able to get some playing time as a rookie, depending on how much the tight end is used in the offense.
