Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce to celebrate wedding at Madison Square Garden

Popstar Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce will celebrate their wedding at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.

A law enforcement official briefed on the security plans told the Associated Press (AP) that the couple will host a smaller rehearsal dinner on Thursday night before tying the knot at the New York arena.

Since the pair announced their engagement in August 2025, fans have speculated about the wedding day and venue of choice with rumours mounting in recent weeks that it would take place over the fourth of July weekend.

The date marks US independence day, a national holiday known to be one of Swift’s favourites, with the singer historically celebrating the day by throwing big parties.

Nothing has been publicly confirmed by the couple, however, crews have been seen unloading equipment from trucks outside of Madison Square Garden, including a large carpet which was briefly unveiled outside one entrance and then promptly removed.

According to AP, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a press conference on Wednesday that the department was tracking an event at the New York arena.

Tisch said: “The NYPD will, of course, have a detail in place, but I’m not going to go into more specifics at this time.

New York City’s mayor, Zohran Mamdani, also confirmed to AP that a permit was filed for a large event.

He said: “We are fully prepared. There isn’t anything to share beyond that.”

It comes weeks after Swift choked back tears as she made history as the youngest woman to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

She paid an emotional tribute to her parents and brother at the New York ceremony, as she thanked them for uprooting their lives and moving from Pennsylvania to Nashville so she could pursue her music career.

Swift and Kelce made headlines in August after announcing their engagement in a joint Instagram post which read: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

Swift sang about the Kansas City Chiefs player in her UK number one album, The Life Of A Showgirl, including on her song, Opalite, which references his birth stone, opal.
