Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement blooms revive English cottage garden romance – here's how a master gardener recreates it

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.

I feel so high school every time I look at... the flowers in Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's engagement shoot. And who could blame me? It's clear that the couple's abundant blooms were chosen to channel ultimate romance.

Travis and Taylor achieve this swoonworthy effect with English cottage style gardening. The charming setup features aged urns tumbling with pastel and white peonies, roses, and other fragrant flowers that scream engagement.

In the foreground, our resident master gardener and gardens content editor, Thom Rutter, spotted annabelle hydrangeas and evergreen monkey grass. Floral experts at Bloom & Wild further picked out delphiniums, alliums, anemones, nerines, and amaranth.

Thom explains: 'We've seen a resurgence in interest in the untamed beauty of a classic English cottage garden over the past few years, and Taylor and Travis's design taps into this garden trend in the most classic way.'

It feels understatedly elegant, just like the couple themselves. Every inch is a masterclass in how to create a romantic garden.

Luckily, even if you aren't preparing for an engagement photoshoot, the advice on decorating with flowers found in Taylor and Travis's image can be applied to any outdoor space. In the blink of a crinkling eye, your garden can look just as stunning.

Thom explains: 'While this setup has obviously been created for the engagement, the lesson here is that dense planting will always be impactful. After all, bare soil in garden borders is never a pleasant sight.'

'So, to inject some romance and joy, opt for cottage garden classics, but be overly generous, fill your borders with perennials and shrubs, and covers gazebos and pergolas with scented honeysuckle and jasmine,' he advises.

In the garden as in love, abundance is always the answer. Classic English garden features such as rose trellises and textured planters can help to add some interest and break up the bouquets of joy.

A classic garden will never go out of style, and relying on classic aesthetics like the English cottage garden look is a great place to start. If it happens to be the most romantic thing you've ever laid eyes on? All the better.
