Tattoo artists share popular but 'cursed' design they tell every client to avoid

Professional tattoo artists are no strangers to odd requests, but some aren't keen on even inking classic ideas onto a person's skin.

People get tattoos for many reasons, with some holding important meanings while others just serve as artistic designs. Now, four professional tattooers have explained why they all avoid one "cursed" idea, as they believe it brings only bad luck.

All the artists, who work at the award-winning Markd Tattoo in Sydney, Australia recently shared the design in question on social media - and it may be one you have or are considering.

In a TikTok video shared to the studio's profile under the username @markdtattoo, they admitted that they prefer to not tattoo names, specifically those of clients' partners.

As reported by the Mirror, one of the artists cautioned: "Oi don't, unless you've got kids, or are married. If not, it's bad luck."

The other advised: "It's a pretty bad idea. Here's the one I have, but it's my wife."

A third artist described the design as "taboo", while a fourth warned: "Don't do it. It's like a curse. You'll probably break up the next week if you do it. But if you've lasted then good on ya, but I wouldn't recommend it."

Those in the comments section shared their own stories of loved-up couple tattoos and there proved to be a real mix of good and bad outcomes.

One person wrote: "Nah, it's not a curse. My man got my name as his first tattoo after a year we've been together. We're married now, five years of being together. Bye."

Another revealed: "My mum got her ex's name and when they split she got a tattoo of a bird shitting on it because it was cheaper than getting it removed."

A third commented: "My dad got my ma's name and they got divorced so he got a coffin over her name."
