Former Sydney Swans and Western Bulldogs player Sarah Skinner has been unveiled as the Tasmania Devils' inaugural VFLW signing.

The 25-year-old, who was born in Tasmania, has played a handful of games at AFLW level and plied her trade in the state competition for Devonport this season.

The Devils are fielding VFL and VFLW sides in 2026 ahead of their entry into the AFL and AFLW in 2028.

"The opportunity to play for Tasmania in the VFLW is something that I have dreamed about for my whole career," Skinner, who captained Tasmania in the 2025 senior academy series, said.

"I feel that my experience from playing in the AFLW and VFLW will add to this squad, and I have a strong belief that we will be competitive in this league.

"The quality of women and girls coming through the Tasmanian system is exciting and the opportunity to enter the VFLW will only accelerate that."

Tasmania's head of list management and strategy Todd Patterson praised Skinner's versatility, professionalism and leadership qualities.

The league has finalised the AFL list concessions for the Devils, which includes $5 million above the salary cap to lure players and a first-year No.1 draft pick.

The club's entry into the national competitions is contingent on construction of a roofed stadium at Macquarie Point in Hobart.

The $1.13 billion project requires the approval of parliament and is set to be voted on in November.

A recent report by Tasmania's planning commission recommended the stadium not be built because its costs outweighed its benefits and it was too big for the site.
