Tashaun Gipson excited to be ‘deadly’ safety duo with Eddie Jackson

Tashaun Gipson was introduced to the Chicago Bears’ media on Tuesday. And while he iterated his expectations of being a starter, his response regarding Eddie Jackson is what makes me most excited about this signing.

That’s now two consecutive offseasons that Jackson’s presence on the roster has influenced a free agent to sign with the Bears. If you recall, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix signed a one-year, “prove-it” deal last year, indicating that Jackson was the reason that got him here.

Clinton-Dix signed with the Dallas Cowboys after having a respectable 2019, and it’s clear that general manager Ryan Pace has little faith in Deon Bush to take over starting strong safety duties. Gipson stated in the presser that the Bears were one of the first teams to reach out to him.

Gipson went undrafted in 2012 out of the University of Wyoming. After starting just three games in his rookie year, Gipson has started 101-of-102 games he’s played in.

Last year, he allowed a 54.1 percent completion rate and a quarterback rating of just 55.0. Gipson was responsible for one touchdown and allowed a mere 20.7 yards-per-game to go along with eight pass deflections and three interceptions.
