The father of a young athlete told how he watched his son die minutes after thugs stabbed him on the Tube.

Tashan Daniel, 20, was killed in a “senseless” attack at Hillingdon station while on his first solo trip to an Arsenal match last week Tuesday.

His father Chandima, 48, ran to the station as it was being evacuated to find paramedics battling to save his son.

He told the BBC: “I was hoping it was mistaken identity — there was no way it was going to be Tashan.

“I could see as I was running down the stairs he was being worked on, on the platform floor. The air ambulance told me his heart had stopped for 20 minutes. It was all a blur.”

Tashan’s mother Celia, also 48, said she was able to “hold his hand for a tiny second” while paramedics tried to save her son.

Tashan and a friend were heading to the Emirates Stadium via the Piccadilly line when two men walked on to the platform and “provoked a fight” at 4pm, police said.

One pulled out a knife and stabbed Tashan. He stumbled on to a train carriage where he died. The suspects fled the station towards Auriol Drive where a knife was found nearby.

Mr Daniel said: “Tashan set his standards high, he was hardworking and a family-orientated boy and he was a beautiful soul.”

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
