Target recalls baby wipes after potentially harmful bacteria found

  • Target has issued a voluntary recall for two variations of its Up & Up brand baby wipes after potentially harmful bacteria were discovered during routine testing.
  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the presence of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, bacteria that can cause life-threatening infections.
  • While healthy individuals are at low risk, immunocompromised individuals, newborns, infants and young children face a higher risk of severe infections like sepsis or pneumonia.
  • The recall affects specific batches of Up & Up fragrance-free and cucumber-scented baby wipes, identifiable by manufacturing and expiration date codes.
  • Customers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled baby wipes and return them to Target for a full refund.
