Taoiseach Leo Varadkar revealed how he weighed nearly 18 stone in the past.
The fitness fanatic now takes part in triathlons, and even did a running meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2017.
But Mr Varadkar revealed that he used to weight 114 kg with a 40 inch waist.
He said: "I used to be very overweight. I was 114kg with a 40 inch waist once upon a time.
"Fitness has become part of what I do. I try to train about four times a week, usually first thing in the morning before going into work."

He told Karl's Real Health podcast: "It followed on from the Operation Transformation metabolic age that had me come out with a metabolic age of 53, even though I’m actually 40, at least chronologically.
“I was a bit surprised at that so I thought I’d delve into that a little more and find out where I’m doing well and where I’m going wrong and what I can do about it.”
He also spoke about how he's put on 10lbs since he became Taoiseach two years ago.
But he said that he works out four times a week and regularly hits the gym before work.
