Tammy Wynette and Patsy Cline now have more in common than their legendary status as country music singers and songwriters. Like Cline, Wynette is set to posthumously perform as a hologram in a Nashville stage show scheduled for early 2016, according to company Hologram USA.
“It’s an honour to celebrate America’s musical heritage by introducing the artistry of Tammy Wynette to new audiences,” company chief executive Alki David in a statement on Wednesday. “We are creating a full length show involving both songs and stories from her life and truly authentic performances.”
The First Lady of Country Music, known for performing hit songs such as Stand By Your Man and D-I-V-O-R-C-E, will join the ranks of Billie Holiday and Whitney Houston, whose holograms are also due to be created by Hologram USA.
The company first showed off its technology at Coachella music festival in 2012, debuting a hologram of rapper Tupac performing live on stage alongside Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre. In the years since, Hologram USA has confirmed plans to create holograms of celebrities from pianist Liberace and comedian Andy Kaufman to musician Buddy Holly.
Wynette gave her last performance at the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville, in May 1997. She died, aged 55, in April 1998.
