Tammy Abraham told he faces Chelsea axe despite scoring at Newcastle

Tammy Abraham has been warned that his goalscoring performance at Newcastle may not be enough to swerve the axe when Chelsea next play.

The young forward scored the Blues' second as they comfortably saw off Newcastle at St James' Park.

Abraham, who was Lampard's main man in attack last term, must now contend with the presence of Timo Werner.

Chelsea started with them both in a three-man forward line against Newcastle that saw Werner pushed out to a wide role.

But with Christian Pulisic poised to come back Owen Hargreaves believes Abraham will be the man to make way having labelled the German as "undroppable".

Abraham has started five of Chelsea's nine games but has been credited with being an excellent squad player.

"Undroppable? Timo Werner is undroppable. But I think he’s making himself a really good squad player," Hargreaves told Premier League Productions

"I think he got 15 [goals] last season. I don’t think he gets enough credit for his overall game.

"I love the fact of his size, technically I think he’s better than people give him credit for.

"He is getting goals but I think when Frank gets his best team nailed down it’ll be Ziyech on one side, Pulisic on the other, and then Werner through the middle [with] Havertz and Mount [behind].

"I think that’s going to be his best team. But Tammy is going to be really important as a squad player."

Abraham's goal at Newcastle was his third in the Premier League having scored 15 last term.

Werner meanwhile has quickly adapted his game to England's top flight and notched four times.

Last term he scored 34 times in all competitions which prompted Chelsea to spent almost £50m to acquire his services.
