CUDDALORE: Three people, including two teenagers, were arrested on Tuesday on charges of gangraping a 21-year-old woman after overpowering her boyfriend at an abandoned building in Cuddalore district on Monday night. The arrested were J Sabari alias Kishore, 18, and N Sathish, 19, of Tiruppapuliyur and S Arif, 24, of Pudupalayam.
DSP (Cuddalore) Karigal Pari Shankar said a police patrol team spotted a woman standing at a bus stop at Semmandalam around 11pm on Monday. They found her in tears and inquiries revealed that she had been raped.
The DSP said the woman, who works in a private firm, and her boyfriend used to meet around 9pm near an abandoned building in a secluded area close to the bus stop after the day’s work for a brief chat before proceeding to their houses.
The three accused had been closely monitoring the activities of the couple for the past few days. When the couple met around 9pm on Monday, the three forced the couple into the abandoned building.
“The gang first robbed the couple of their mobile phones and cash. Two of them overpowered her boyfriend while the third raped her. They threatened them with dire consequences if they revealed the incident to anyone and fled the scene. Her boyfriend dropped her at the bus stop promising to approach police the next day,” said the DSP.
The patrol team, with the help of policewomen, took her to Cuddalore Government General Hospital and admitted her for treatment.
