CHENNAI: A Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) in Tiruvallur has ordered a Class XII student, who was booked for impregnating a minor girl, to work at a government hospital in the district for 12 hours every Sunday.
The boy was studying at a government school in the locality when he befriended the girl, his classmate. When the school was shut due to Covid-19 last year, they became close.
The boy took the girl out last year. A few months later, the girl’s family found that she was pregnant and lodged a complaint against the boy at the Tiruttani All-Women Police Station (AWPS).
The boy who had fled home after his relationship with the girl came to light went to a town in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Police tracked and caught hold of him 15 days ago and booked him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso Act). They produced him before the JJB.
When the case came up for hearing, the board ordered the boy to work at the government hospital as punishment.
He has to clean the hospital premises every Sunday and assist other workers there. He would spend not less than 12 hours working at the facility, the order mentioned.
